Figure in Progress

The Figure in Process explores the interpretation of the human figure through works made over six decades by artists from around the world, it presents seldom-seen paintings by modern masters such as Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud, David Hockney and Willem de Kooning. The exhibition is organized by Dr. David Anfam, a world-renowned historian of modern American art, and the Senior Consulting Curator and Director of the Research Center at the Clyfford Still Museum in Colorado. He explains: “The exhibition looks at the exciting ways in which modern and contemporary artists around the globe have conceived our presence in the world—ranging from the ideal to the grotesque. Whether dissolving into the landscape, posed before the beholder with formal rigor, elevated to the most monumental proportions or treated intimately, artists of our time have ceaselessly reinvented the figure, and, therefore, our sense of the self.”
